79cm x 59cm & 13cm x 67cm artist Marilyn Barrington

showing 3 stages of work

Side view showing collage detail of collage & encaustic

FRAGMENTS AFTER FIRE has a strong connection with the effects of wildfire on the fragile forest that surrounds Walpole and its ability to regenerate. A testiment to fragility and endurance.

This artwork was created on Watercolour Paper with burnt edges and adhered to a firm substrate then a sketch with conte & charcoal before applying several layers of encaustic (beeswax & damar resin) in heated form fusing between with heatgun. Collaged watercolour paper with burnt details fused to the surface with encaustic and layered with encaustic and added pigments. The lower box has the writing fused into the surface.
