STANDING TALL

Paper encaustic (beeswax & resin) watercolour  pastel  silk  burnt paper

Standing beneath the tall Karri beside the pristine inlet waters

Breathe in the pure beauty of the surroundings

Connect with the passage of time

Be inspired by the endurance of Karri to withstand Natures Fury regenerating after Wildfire

All around the gentle movement of fallen debris settling into fragile layers beneath the silent Karri

Creating an ALTERNATIVE ARCHIVE of the past a testament of strength & endurance

I chose to work with paper for its fragility using encaustic to strengthen and bind together the layers

Combining watercolour pastel with collaged papers to create texture and movement burning layers of Hanji paper to create fragility and strength.

Encaustic (beeswax & damar resin) is an ancient form of painting practiced by the Greeks & Romans.

Applied to surface while melted and reheated to seal between layers the process requires many layers
