Summer, the West is experiencing Wildfires -- Fire storms sparked by lightning strikes.

A FIRE STORM roars through the forest destroying everything in its path.  Ash rains down, feathers fall, a bird dies leaving its mate.

The Fire Storm passes leaving behind a barren landscape as if the forest has just melted away. Silence remains.

To create FIRE STORM pigmented inks are applied to a prepared board, plaster applied to create texture, when dry a bird is painted using pigmented inks and charcoal applied to surface. Then beeswax & damar resin heated at low temperature and applied in layers, with pastel, charcoal & feathers painted on hanji paper collaged between layers fusing each with a heat gun. Final layers of encaustic and pigment applied and heated to run, creating texture suggesting the destruction of the forest. The 2 part frame suggests the fury of fire then SILENCE.
